Welcome
in to the online home of Ben Casey Publishing. Ben is both a professional
photographer and author, and has combined those skills to create
a series of books about North Carolina waterways.
The
latest in the series is Living Waters,
a photo essay of both the natural beauty and people of the Trent
River.
Ben doesn't simply take pictures of a river - he takes the time
to experience it. "I have found the only way to really
understand a waterway and its people is to spend time on that waterway.
My tools are a simple combination of a canoe, a paddle, a camera
and a notebook." Ben starts in Jones County and takes
you along the Trent all the way to the river mouth in Craven County.
Ben began the
waterway series with what he calls "an interview with the Neuse
River." Starting
in Raleigh, Ben and his friends paddled through twists, turns and
towns. At New Bern they continued the journey via power vessel until
the Neuse met the Pamlico Sound. The
result was All In One River.
Ben's first
book introduced readers to both the characters and character of
Pamlico County, Ben's home. Southern wit and
charm abound in Mama Always Said.
Ben Casey has
found a calling in these books. You'll

About
Ben Casey
Ben was born just a few blocks from the Neuse River’s edge in
New Bern, and grew up primarily in neighboring Pamlico County.
He says he took his first black & white photograph in 1967. Ben
was a college sophmore. The subject was an attractive coed. Though
her photo was used in a development publication for the college, Ben
complains, "I never did get a date with her."
But a
career was launched.
Ben has been a teacher, an education administrator and ran a photography
studio in Nashville, NC. But home called. In 1996 Ben returned to
Pamlico County and settled on the water, just a few hundred yards
from where he learned to swim as a child..
Ben has never been a doctor, nor has he played one on TV. The real-life
Ben Casey lives on Dawson's Creek, overlooking
the Neuse River. |
